A Credit Union is a ‘not for profit’ financial institution owned and controlled by its members. They have a ‘field of membership’ which is based on either where you live or work – this determines who can become a member.
Military CU is part of the Serve and Protect family and a trading name of Police Credit Union, which was originally set up by the police, for serving and retired police officers/police staff and members of their family.
Following support from the Ministry of Defence in October 2015, we began to offer our Credit Union Service to the Armed Forces, enabling Service personnel, Reservists and Veterans to save and borrow with repayments straight from their military pay or pension.
The free employee benefit aims to improve the financial resilience of our members, helping them to save straight from their military pay. We are also there to help our members if they ever need a loan – providing an ethical alternative to other financial providers.
With over 33,000 members across the Military, Police, Prison, Fire and Health services, we operate from regional branches covering the protective services in England and Wales.
For more information on Military CU, please contact us.
Police Credit Union operates under the terms of the Co-operatives and Community Benefit Act Societies 2014 and the Credit Union Act 1979. It is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and The Prudential Regulation Authority, the same bodies that cover banks and building societies.
The aims of a credit union are to:
We offer simple, secure financial services to meet the needs of those who serve and protect. Our easy access regular savings accounts pay a return in the form of an annual dividend. Savings are made directly from pay where available and by Direct Debit in others.
We also offer life insurance, at no extra cost.

Credit Unions aim to pay a return on savings in the form of an annual dividend. Members save in order to allow fellow members to borrow, in return for a fair rate of interest charged.
By law, a credit union cannot currently charge more than an APR of 42.6%, but again the rate we charge is generally far less than this.
Loans are subject to status, conditions and credit checks to members aged 18 or over. Written details are available upon request.
There are over 50,000 credit unions around the world, enabling over 196 million members to access affordable financial services. For more information about the credit union movement, please visit the website of the Association of British Credit Unions Limited (ABCUL).
